When is the market and what are your hours of operation?
The Providence Open Market is divided into two season, spring and fall.

The Spring Market is open every Saturday from May 31, 2008 through June 28, 2008. Hours of operation are 12pm-6pm.

The Fall Market is open every Saturday from September 6, 2008 through September 27, 2008. Hours of operation are 11am-5pm.

Who can participate?
We are currently accepting applications for the following types of vendors:

Artists and artisans - All artwork and crafts must be hand made using original designs.
Antique and Collectable Dealers
Prepared Food Vendors

Is the market juried?
Yes. All vendors must submit an application with 3 photos of their work. Submissions will then be reviewed and applicants will be notified of their acceptance status within 1 week if they submitted an online application or 2 weeks if they applied via snail mail.

Do I need to commit to three days?
No. You can apply to sell as an “Unreserved Vendor”. Unreserved vendors are not guaranteed a booth space and are charged $75 a day. You are still required to submit an application and have your product approved before you can become an unreserved vendor.

Can I share my space?
Two vendors may share space at the market. However both parties must submit applications and be approved.

Do I need any special permits to sell at the market?
Temporary Retail Sales Permits are REQUIRED in the State of Rhode Island. All exhibitors must be in compliance with state & Federal Tax Laws and display their permits in their booth. This is required for both in and out-of-state vendors. Permits are sold at the Providence Open Market for out-of-state vendors and RI residents who do not have an existing permit. Once purchased, your permit must be displayed in your booth at all times. There is a one time $10 fee, and will be good for the entire 2008 selling season for the Providence Open Market ONLY. At the close of each scheduled market, a representative will collect your 7% sales tax to be remitted to the RI division of Taxation the following week.

For RI residents who have an existing permit, we will need your permit number before you begin set-up. Our staff will ONLY collect sales tax from vendors who have purchased a permit. Those who have an existing permit will file their own taxes and do not have to submit your 7% at the end of the day.

How do I pay for my space?
We accept electronic payment (via Pay Pal) or you can mail a check made out to NE Open Markets LLC to:

Yes. The Providence Open Market supplies you 10x10 feet of space – how you fill that space is up to you.

Are tent weights mandatory?
Yes they are. We require at least 40lbs of weight per leg. For more information about buying or building tent weight please go to

What time do I need to be at the market to setup?
The Friday before the market you will receive a setup email with your assigned setup time. Please arrive as close as possible to your appointed time. When you arrive, the market manager will show you to your space. No vendor will be allowed to set up before 8:30am.

Can I arrive or breakdown early?
Vendors will not be allowed to set up before 8:30am and cannot breakdown before the market closes. If you have an extenuating circumstance please talk to the market manger when you arrive.

Is there vendor parking?
Yes there is plenty of on street parking on the East Side.

What happens if it rains?
The Providence Open Market is a rain or shine market. Please be prepared by bringing the required set-up materials (tents or awnings). In the event of a cancellation due to severe weather, refunds will not be granted. Instead a credit may be applied to a future market date.

How will I know if the market has been cancelled?
We will send an email to all vendors, post it on our website, and leave it as a recorded message on our phone line.

Do I have to accept credit cards?
No, although many vendors find it convenient to do so.

Is there a place to purchase food and coffee nearby?
The East Side is home to numerous cafes, restaurants and coffee shops. All just a few blocks away from the market.
